Fitness is a major part of surf lifesaving and the lifestyle that surrounds it, and Merewether SLSC members are lucky to have one of the best stretches of coast in NSW to train and exercise on. There are numerous options when it comes to getting started in surf sports:
Equipment is available in each of the above disciplines for use by financial club members. Eligible members may also gain access to the club’s fully equipped gymnasium to assist them in strength training for competition and general fitness for lifesaving duties.
The minimum requirements for these carnivals are 25 patrol hours in a calendar year. Patrol hours are calculated on a pro rata basis for members with less than twelve months service.

Contact Director of Surf Sports via email surfsports@merewetherslsc.com.
Important Note: anyone wishing to compete must be proficient and financial members of the club, and have accumulated sufficient patrol hours to meet their eligibility requirements to compete. Refer to the Patrol Information section of the website for links to information on proficiency requirements of the Hunter SLS and Australian SLSA.
All competitors are required to wear a pink rash singlet when competing. The rash singlets from last season, with Newcastle Permanent sponsorship on them, can be used again this season. If a competitor does not have a singlet then they can be purchased at carnivals for $10 each.
Each competitor will be allocated a number at their first carnival. This number is to be written somewhere on the competitor i.e. on arm, on rash singlet, on cap etc, and the number will remain the same for each competitor for every carnival over the season.
