Merewether Skills Maintenance

Each season every patrol member and water safety member is required to undertaken an annual skills update (proficiency) for the following awards.

  • Bronze Medallion
  • Surf Rescue Certificate
  • Advanced Resuscitation Techniques
  • Spinal Management
  • Silver Medallion Aquatic Rescue
  • Radio Operator
  • IRB Crewman
  • Silver Medallion IRB Driver
  • Applied First Aid (update 3 yearly)

It is important for all patrol members to undertake their annual skills update in all of their awards to meet our patrol obligations. Organising and delivering the annual skill maintenance program is a significant coordination effort for our Education Team and your prompt and timely attendance is essential.

All proficiencies must be completed before mid December to allow time for processing before the cut off  on 31 December.

Bronze proficiency sessions are divided into 3 components:

 1.  Online Module

Bronze holders must complete the online Bronze Medallion Skills Maintenance Theory module, which is in eLearning accessed through the SLS Members Portal.

2.  Dry Component

The dry component will consist of a short recap on first aid and DRSABCD procedures and a CPR session, all in a COVID sensitive environment to be held in the MSLSC Function Room.

3.  Wet Component

The wet component will consist of a run-swim-run and a  tube rescue of a conscious patient (beach conditions permitting).
