Merewether Skills Maintenance
Each season every patrol member and water safety member is required to undertaken an annual skills update (proficiency) for the following awards.
- Bronze Medallion
- Surf Rescue Certificate
- Advanced Resuscitation Techniques
- Spinal Management
- Silver Medallion Aquatic Rescue
- Radio Operator
- IRB Crewman
- Silver Medallion IRB Driver
- Applied First Aid (update 3 yearly)
It is important for all patrol members to undertake their annual skills update in all of their awards to meet our patrol obligations. Organising and delivering the annual skill maintenance program is a significant coordination effort for our Education Team and your prompt and timely attendance is essential.
All proficiencies must be completed before mid December to allow time for processing before the cut off on 31 December.
Bronze proficiencies are divided into a “wet” and a “dry” component.
The wet component will consist of a run-swim-run and a board or tube rescue of a conscious or unconscious patient. The dry component will recap signals, CPR, first aid, radio and one or two scenarios which will refresh your knowledge of DRSABCD procedures.
Four or five Bronze and SRC proficiency sessions are run each season, the first in early September. The dry component is usually run first in the MSLSC Function Room, followed by the “wet” component, conditions permitting.
Check the Training Courses Calendar under the Education tab for proficiency dates.
