For the first time since 2019, Merewether-Hamilton-Adamstown RSL Sub-Branch held it’s annual Anzac Day Service at the Memorial Gates – Townsend Oval Merewether.
Each year the Sub-Branch invites both Merewether and Dixon Park Surf Life Saving Clubs to participate in the Service by acknowledging those who lost their lives in defending their country.
This Year both Clubs laid Wreaths to honour those fallen and more so paying our respects to those soldiers who were from Merewether and honour those names engraved on the two Memorial Gates Tablets.
Surf Clubs were formed and maintained by returned servicemen from the First and Second World Wars that when looking back probably provided a sense of belonging and establishing comradery within surf life saving.
Club President and Life Member Mr Nick Newton was accompanied by Patrolling Surf Club Members Ms McKenzie Wall and Ms Lucinda McNabb, and Junior Members from Merewether Nippers laid Wreaths on behalf of the members of Merewether Surf Life Saving Club.
