Information Day Sunday 9th October - 9:00am-11:00am – Merewether Surf Club (upstairs)

All new and existing members welcome. It will mainly be for U6/7s to explain how Nippers operate and what tasks are required by parents to assist with over the season (you will sign up to specific dates). On this day you will also be able to try on uniforms and see the Registrar regarding any rego issues you may have. You will also need to provide your printed and signed Member Protection Declaration Form, photo ID and WWCC number.

Uniforms will be available to try on at the Information Day (Sunday 9th October - 9:00am-11:00am). Orders and payment need to be made via the Online Store on our website. Be sure to get your club neoprene visor that can be worn over the skull cap and protect faces in the hot summer sun. Collection can be made at the first 3 Nippers sessions between 8:30am – 9:00am at the club.

To purchase: Go to - Nippers Online Store

Select your items, it will ask you to sign in (yes you need to create an account, it is for our website and separate to the Members Portal where you register/pay), click the link "First Time Users: Click here to create an Account"

It only needs a few details though & is quick. You can pay with PayPal only but don't worry if you don't have a PayPal account - you can still do a credit card payment within that system.

Expressions of Interest for Age Managers

We need more helpers to take the various age groups (Age Managers and Assistant Age Managers). You would take the age group your child is in and be required to attend each Sunday. We have Assistant Age Managers so if someone is away, the group still has a leader. The sessions are all planned and it is a very rewarding position. If you are interested please email for more information.

Nippers Camp Fingal Bay 3rd, 4th & 5th March 2017

Save the date. Everyone welcome! A fun camping weekend to finish off the season, filled with surf activities, trivia, movie nights and more. It was a huge success last season and we hope more families can join us in March. More information will be available through the season. Nippers Camp 2017

About us...

The Merewether SLSC Nippers Committee run the “Merewether Nippers” each Sunday at Newcastle’s favourite Merewether Beach during the summer months between October and March, with a short break for Christmas / New Year.

Children can join “Nippers” from the age of five (5) years and start learning about surf awareness and safety through the “SurfEd” program.  As they get older they are able to participate in fun activities and games, wading, sprinting, board paddling, surfing, and surf swimming, dependent on their ages and abilities. At Merewether the emphasis is on having fun whilst developing these important skills.

Practicing these skills helps develop competence and confidence in the surf environment.  It also allows children to compete in Club, Regional and State Life Saving carnivals. Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) also conducts junior development camps in every state as well as the National Junior Surf League & Development Program.

The most senior Nippers can undertake a Surf Life Saving Certificate (SRC).  Probationary surf life savers can achieve this award from the age of 13 years and this helps and prepares them for active patrolling duties with Merewether SLSC.  The award trains candidates in rescue skills, first aid and patient management, resuscitation and a theoretical component exploring safety knowledge and surf awareness.

On behalf of the Merewether Nippers we hope that you will come and enjoy the Surf Life Saving season with “Merewether Nippers”. For information please email or contact any of the officials mentioned in our Contacts Section. Registration information will be posted online and on our Facebook page.
